Housing affordability affects us all
Iris is committed to addressing our County’s housing shortage and unsustainable property tax burden
Addressing the Housing Crisis
Iris recognizes the significant short- and long-term challenges posed by rising housing costs and limited inventory, particularly for working families and marginalized communities. She believes in partnering with state and local governments to develop innovative solutions, such as mixed-income housing initiatives, increased investment in energy-efficient affordable housing, and policies to prevent displacement of long-time residents. People should be able to live where they work and age in place, rather than be forced to move outside the county to find suitable housing for their families. Additionally, Tompkins County has a significant population of unhoused residents, and Iris will continue efforts to build safe, accessible shelter and services so that everyone may live with dignity.
